The leopard identification project has got off to a great start and we now have identification tips for three of our resident leopards - like those shown in the images in this blog. Shareholders can view the whole guide online and download a copy if desired.

Maya has been so named as this seems to be an easily remembered shortening of "tsamaya tlasa" which is Setawana for "walk under" in reference to her habit of passing extremely close to the viewing hide at Mogorosi including passing right beneath while shareholders are sat inside!

Another of the identified individuals has been christened Rhulani, a Shangaan term for "relaxed" and representative of its behaviour when sighted.

But there remain a number of images awaiting identification and comparison with other shots and we really need many more photos emailing in. For example we have a slightly blurry shot of a very full looking male walking near Langope Springs that has some resemblance to those of another male on Lipadi Hill, however we only have head and neck images of this individual which makes a definitive identification difficult. You may have the photos that provide the missing information and provide even more depth to our population profile!

Shareholders can find out how to submit images on the website as well as how to view the identification galleries and get involved. Why not check out the project, come up with an identification and suggest a name to be used for that individual leopard!
